Not sure about the skin /color/, but I remember they took out the blue diamonds because when they tested the make-up, it wasn't working too well from the farther seats so they nixed that. But the skin color IS a shame, especially since the bits where Taye Diggs took over the role of Fiyero were really good, and sweet when he did his scenes with Idina.

and SQUEE I love Taye Diggs! If he had originated the role it would have been a DREAM. such a shame. and of course it’s nice that they aren’t strict about the recasts being white. now that would have been ridiculously problematic.

but it’s like this: they’re not gonna make an orange elphaba, a brunette glinda, a 6 foot boq, and a sheep dr. dillamond. because the book described them as green, blond, munchkin and goat, respectively. It’s just their character.

but somehow…whitewashing fiyero is just a-okay?

I recently did a commission involving Wicked: the Musical, and reminded me of something from the book that the musical is based on: Fiyero is not white. In fact, he’s not even human really, he’s an Arjiki, from the land of Vinkus. So…not exactly Norbert Leo Butz. The musical turned him human and white for no apparent reason (except for the obvious one). eternal sadface.

anyway. I turned him back into a hot ~~naked~~ brown dude.*

same recipe as the white but really orange cake, except we added blueberries after the batter was mixed and just before baking and didn’t bother with food colouring anywhere.

the icing is as always butter, icing sugar, a pinch of salt and a teaspoon of milk or two. then take a healthy serving of all your frustration and anxiety and apply generously to whip the eff out of them uckers.

this cake is dense though. quite heavy, so it’s not like a fluffy cake you can make layers and layers of. goes amazingly well with coffee. what i’m just saying. food blogs do this and so can i.
